Being a long distance runner myself I know how helpful a smartwatch is and how much costly it is too. So, I wrote this article to help all the runners out to improve their speed, keep an eye on their heartbeat without emptying their wallet.
Nowadays in 2018, there’s a lot of choices for runners to track their progress.
Most runners keep their smartphone with them while running and use Apps to track their progress.
This is what I used to do while running a marathon, but the disadvantage of carrying a smartphone while running are many like Rain damage, damage from sweat, bulky, the chance of dropping.
I used to track my runs with the help of a smartphone but used a water-resistant cover to keep it safe from sweat and rain. The cover helped me a lot to keep my smartphone safe but made it bulky so that was annoying.
Then after a while, I stopped using the smartphone in marathons but that was a bad idea I couldn’t track my runs and would get bored while running.
Then I researched a lot and found these smartwatches which have great battery life and are affordable.
Requirements of a runner: My perspective
- GPS, that’s must
- Water Resistant
- Waterproof if you are a Triathlon Runner
- Music playback straight from the watch
- Interchangeable Bands
- Good Battery Backup
- Sync with Strava or other fitness apps
- Good tracking software in a watch as well as in smartphone
- Visible in sunlight
- Show and read notifications
Kept in mind all these requirements I found these smartwatches which are the best under 160$ or RS 11000.

Amazfit Bip is another fitness watch which is basically made for runners, it comes in many colors, supports English, it is IP-68 water resistant, has 40 days of battery backup which is insane.
